* Working with Macros
Downloaded Excel Macros designed to facilitate data entering process to some degree. To utilize macros, the MS Office must have Visual Basic for Application (VBA) installed as an option.

When installed, macros would help to enter common data into the fields. For instance: if you have a "phone" field common for all imported ads, then instead of copy/pasting the phone number for each ad or group of ads, you may enter it once, then run macro and have the "phone" field filled with common phone number for each ad.

To install macros do the following:

  • Download respective to the Import method template and macro from links above and save them to the local drive. Unzip macro .bas module.
  • Open template in MS Excel.
  • Hit Alt+F11. The Microsoft Visual Basic window would be opened.
  • Next, in the "Project - VBAProject" column right mouse click at "Sheet1" and then "Import File..."
  • Browse the respective Macro .bas file and select it.
  • Close Visual Basic window

Using macros:

  • Macros replicate data entered into the first row (not counting header row) into all other respective rows for the column. For "Import" method a 1000 rows would be filled. For "Import Plus" - 500.
  • Example: You need to enter http://www/yourdomain.com into all rows for a "website" field. Type this URL address under "website" header  (you would be typing at row 2 and column D). Next hit Alt+F8, select "website" macro from the list and click "Run". Entire Column D with header "website" should be filled with specified URL address.
  • If you need to enter different values for a specific column, then arbitrary use macro for pasting the most common value and then manually change those, which should be different.
  • Macro fills first 1000 rows for "Import" method and 500 for "Import Plus" method. If you have fewer ads to import, then at the end, when you finish entering data you may simply select and delete in one shot unwanted rows from the bottom of the template.
  • Note: Not all fields would have a respective macro. Some fields such as "subject", "description" are not included due to the fact that the data would most likely be different for each ad record.
