Installation

Before you install Ads Import Plug-in make sure you have installed the patch for RC v3.2: Download

There are 5 folders at the root of the unzipped package.

  • Manual_Content - location of the HTML pages for this manual.

  • Conversion_Tools - Place this folder aside. It is not directly related to Ads Import plug-in. The content of this folder is a replacement for database conversion tools, which come with the main RC v3.2 package (located in "Extras" folder). After Ads Import tools are installed, the new conversion tools should be used for the case of database backup or converting from/to SQL.

  • Desktop_Tools - Place this folder somewhere at your local drive. The content of this folder is directly related to Ads Import. It must stay at your PC. Do NOT upload this folder or it's content to the classified located at the web server. The main purpose of tools within this folder is to resize attached to the ads images and format "images" field within Import database, which would be conducted at your local PC.

  • WebSite_Pages - The main location for the Ads Import tools and pages, which would be uploaded to your classified location.

  • Miscellaneous - This folder contains some more tools related to bulk upload. For information see the "Miscellaneous" section of this manual.

To install the plug-in open WebSite_Pages and do the following:

  1. Upload 2 files from Install folder - Account_Import and import_install.asp to the root of your classified location. Run the import_install.asp in a browser and upgrade the database.

  2. Delete both files from the root of your classified.

  3. Upload page import_config.asp from config folder into the config folder at the classified location.

  4. Upload 3 images from img folder into img folder at the classified location.

  5. Upload folder import to the root of your classified (along with it's content).

  6. Create new folder inside cl_upload folder at your classified location and name it 000000 (all zeros within the folder name are mainly used to place this folder at the top in FTP folders list view for convenience because you will be accessing it quite often).

  7. Upload the rest of the pages from the root of the WebSite_Pages folder to the root of your classified location.

Important! The following pages would replace original pages, which come with the default RC v3.2 package:

    admin_logon.asp
    admin_menu.asp
    libraries.asp
    post_new2.asp

    reg.asp
    viewuserlist.asp

If you made any changes to the 6 pages listed above make sure to replicate those changes into new pages before uploading them to classified location at the web server. In addition if you renamed the original admin_logon.asp page for security reasons, then make sure to rename the replacement page before uploading it.

The installation is complete at this point. Below is a definition and purpose of 2 new folders appearing at your classified:

  • import - is located at the root of the classified. This folder would contain MS Access databases for Ads Import as well as downloadable data template .xls sheets and downloadable macros for data entry facilitation.

  • cl_upload/000000 - this folder is the main location of the images attached to the imported ads

Both folders may be renamed to any valid name. If you for some reason decided to rename those folders you would also need to reflect changes in config/import_config.asp page. Open the import_config.asp in any text editor and change the respective folder name values for variable main_image_folder and main_db_folder

Warning: Do not rename main_image_folder folder AFTER you already Imported Ads with this tool! Do not change anything else in config/import_config.asp page!
